24 hour meridian clock

Welcome to my new series #meridianmonday

Each week I’ll share some information about the meridian system and how it relates to your wellbeing.

There’s so much to say about our meridians, and how caring for your energy flow can support your health.

First up, meridians are real!

They’re not just imaginary lines. Meridians are channels for qi (life force energy) to move through the body. The 12 main meridians are related to important organs in the body.

Today I thought I’d share about the 24 hour meridian clock, which is the cycle of qi as it moves through each meridian in a 24 hour period.

Qi flow

Our qi moves through each meridian in a two hour interval. Which means that six of our meridians are active during the day, and six are active at night. Each meridian is either yin or yang, and the flow around the 24 hour clock operates this way, too.

When our energy becomes blocked or stagnant, we can end up with over-energy in one meridian, resulting in under-energy in another. A bit like the way that you can have water rushing towards a rock in a river, yet on the other side there’s a trickle!

A meridian flow imbalance can affect your energy levels, and can cause issues in the affected physical organs as well.

So if you find yourself regularly waking up at a certain time at night, there might be an imbalance to resolve in order to keep your qi flow moving optimally.

In every Kinesiology session, I check for meridian flow and any entry or exit point blocks as part of the set up for going deeper into whatever we’re working on.

The 24hr meridian clock flows as follows

  • 11am-1pm: Heart (fire)
  • 1pm-3pm: Small Intestine (fire)
  • 3pm-5pm: Bladder (water)
  • 5pm-7pm: Kidney (water)
  • 7pm-9pm: Pericardium (fire)
  • 9pm-11pm: Triple Heater (fire)
  • 11pm-1am: Gall Bladder (wood)
  • 1am-3am: Liver (wood)
  • 3am-5am: Lung (metal)
  • 5am-7am: Large Intestine (metal)
  • 7am-9am: Stomach (earth)
  • 9am-11am: Spleen (earth)

Acupressure tools to use at home

You can work with your own acupressure points at home. There’s a great website and app called A Manual of Acupressure that shows you clearly where each point is.

So, if you realise you’ve got an issue with one of your meridians, you can work with those points at home until you can get to your next Kinesiology session!

Got questions?

If there’s anything you’d like to know about the meridian system, please let me know in the comments!
