Just imagine…
You’ve inherited a family home, one that generations of your ancestors have inhabited.
It’s a multi-story building, and right at the top is an attic.
You head up the creaky old stairs to the attic door and… you’re confronted with piles and piles of boxes and “stuff”. It’s everywhere.
Dust. Boxes. Old suitcases and wardrobes. Family papers. You name it, the attic is so full you can barely get in the door!
Your goal? Is to eventually, clear that dang attic
But where do you start? With the stuff that you can’t even see? With the stuff you can see, but it’s over by the window on the far wall?
Or do you start with what’s right in front of you? (Hint: Yep!)
Okay, maybe you want to start elsewhere, but for now, this is where you’re at. And in order to get to where you’d like to start, you need to shift the boxes that are in the way!
And it’s no good just throwing EVERYTHING out, right?
You need to know if you’re dealing with trash or treasure. So it’s important to have a look in each box, yeah?
Sometimes a cursory glance is enough; sometimes a deeper excavation is required.
So you open a box and delve into the past, or sometimes you find yourself peering into the lives of your ancestors.
Some of what you’ll uncover is important, some won’t be.
But it’s a process
And in order to do justice to yourself and your ancestors, you need to sort and clear the attic of all of the mess and noise.
Eventually if you keep up this work, you’ll have a lovely clear attic available to use however you like.
And how wonderful is that?
So… why am I telling you all of this?
Coz this is an excellent way to understand how Kinesiology works.
In our lives, we’ve accumulated a bunch of “stuff”: life experiences, emotions and concerns. We even inherit “stuff” from our ancestors via our DNA, including both physical and emotional issues.
Which is fine, as long as those issues aren’t clogging up the attic!
And in order to get through the layers of “stuff”, we work at the pace and direction your body and energy want you to go.
Which might mean we can’t clear certain issues until other more “up front and present” issues are resolved, first.
It’s a process of layers upon layers upon layers.
I can’t even tell you the number of times I’ve heard (and said myself), “But I thought I’d cleared everything to do with that issue!”
Think of Kinesiology as a progressive healing process
Hint: pretty much any healing process is progressive!
The fact is, it can take time to delve deeper into the core issues in play.
Sometimes we need to find a clear pathway to access the relevant info. And, along the journey to creating that clear pathway, there’ll be other issues to clear – they might be directly related or they might not.
And sometimes we just need to allow the various layers to come into the light when they’re ready.
Which may be out of synch with our expectations or desires to be “done” with certain aspects of our healing process.
Self-patience, self-compassion, self-acceptance
To be honest, there are days where I’d like those three words tattooed all over my body.
Heck, perhaps even directly onto my brain.
In fact, whenever I’m not being particularly patient, compassionate or accepting towards myself, more often than not I’m (gently and lovingly) hit over the head with this exact message.
As if I didn’t already know how important those messages are!
But obviously as with healing work, taking in such messages on all levels and layers of our beings can be less than straight-forward.
And importantly, having patience, compassion and acceptance for yourself? ARE an integral part of the healing process.
How about you? Does that resonate at all?
The work of clearing our “attic” is about making space, and allowing time for shifts in our mental, physical, emotional and/or spiritual wellbeing to occur as they need to.
In their own time. When we feel safe and strong and supported enough for the next level of healing to occur.
Eventually the idea is that we clear out the gunk and maybe even renovate that attic!
Turn the space that’d previously been reserved for clutter and old stories… into a spacious, airy place where newer and more positive stories can be created.
So tell me, are you ready to start clearing out your attic?
If you are, get in touch!
It’d be my pleasure and an honour to assist you in the clearing process!
Much love,
